General Situation Of Cotton In India

In Asia, besides China, the cotton producing countries mainly include India and Pakistan in South Asia. The cotton production of these two countries is in the forefront of the world. With the progress and national support in recent years, they gradually occupy a pivotal position in the global cotton textile industry.
The cotton producing areas in India can be divided into three cotton planting belts in the north, the middle and the south according to the production places and their climatic conditions. The area proportion of the three cotton belts is 20%, 60% and 20%, and the total area of all India cotton field is about 8-9 million ha.
India is located in the South Asian subcontinent, facing the sea on three sides, most of which belong to the monsoon savanna climate. The cotton planting area covers the whole Indian peninsula, with 8.5 million hectares of cotton fields. The estimated planting area in 2006 / 2007 is 9.3 million hectares. India is one of the largest cotton producing countries in the world, and its annual output ranks second in the world. Cotton in India grows almost entirely from natural rainfall, so cotton production is greatly affected by variety, soil, rainfall and climate change.
The sowing date and harvest time of the three cotton planting belts were April to May and October to November in northern cotton belt; The middle cotton belt was from May to June and from November to December; The Southern cotton belt is from June to July and from December to January of the next year; There are three varieties of Indian cotton: short fiber (including short fiber and medium fiber) belongs to Indian native cotton; Medium long fiber (including long and long fiber) belongs to American upland cotton; The extra long fiber belongs to upland cotton and Egyptian cotton. The varieties include desi, J34, v797, LRA, mech1, bunny, shankar-6, mcu5, dch32 and suvin.
The consistency and uniformity of Indian cotton are poor, the short fiber rate is as high as 15%, the water impurity is large, the roller finishing has high impurity content, and more than three filaments. Generally speaking, cotton is slightly better than Pakistan cotton. At present, India has the largest import volume of cotton in China.
Among them, the best cotton is shankar-6 (S-6) produced in Gujarat, which can spin 21 and 32 yarns. Ring spinning and rotor spinning of 21 counts and less in other regions.
